Resilient. Low Maintenance. Superior Flavor.
Our Black Borrego flock consists of hair sheep, not wool sheep. They do not carry the heavy lanolin flavor or the thick coats of traditional wool breeds. Instead, they produce a far superior, cleaner, and milder tasting meat. Raised exclusively on pasture grasses, they offer a highly nutritious and naturally lean meat alternative that has been trusted for generations.

Our flock has strong roots tracing back to the Barbados Blackbelly and Black Hawaiian hair sheep lines. Originally brought to our 23-acre ranch in 2002 to manage heavy vegetation and reduce fire hazards in the Sierra foothills, we quickly realized these animals were exceptional in more ways than one.
Today, they remain a tough, low-maintenance breed thriving on our mineral-rich land, drinking from deep wells tapped directly into icy cold underground rivers fed by the Sierra snowpack.
Every animal in our herd carries the resilient genetics of the Black Borrego lineage. We are currently compiling the individual histories, traits, and bloodlines of our foundational sires and matriarch ewes.
Individual animal histories and genetic profiles coming soon.
We currently offer live livestock sales for clients looking to start their own herd or process their own meat. We are also actively expanding our offerings to provide premium, USDA-inspected lamb cuts directly to consumers.
